An 18-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly burnt to death by unidentified

In Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao, 18-year-old Dalit girl, riding back home after buying veggies, burnt to death

An 18-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly burnt to death by unidentified miscreants in Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh.

The teenager had gone out to buy vegetables and was on her way back home in her bicycle when she was allegedly attacked.

The incident took place yesterday night in Bara Sagwar area of Unnao district. According to preliminary reports, the attackers may have used petrol to allegedly set the teenager on fire.

Her charred body has been recovered and sent for post-mortem.

According to information accessed so far, the teenager was close to her house and was passing through the fields, when miscreants allegedly attacked her, poured petrol over her and set her on fire.

Since the area was deserted, villagers could not hear her cries for help. The teenager’s charred body was recovered from the spot around 6 in the evening. The girl’s family said they do not suspect personal enmity behind the alleged attack.

Senior police officers, including IG Sujit Kumar Pandey, have spoken to the teenager’s family. Several people have been interrogated by the police in connection with the incident.
